Poverty Mapping for High School Teachers Curriculum Modules
The Spatializing Poverty Team has developed a set of modules for teaching about poverty in the Middle East. The modules are developed primarily for high school teachers and focus on gaining a spatial understanding of poverty, unpacking poverty metrics and policies, using maps to explore inequality and introducing open source technologies for the classroom.
The Impact of Poverty Maps on the Development of Tinghir Province

The Spatializing Poverty Team presented the results of the research completed between 2014-2018 at a Symposium held in Kelaa M’gouna, Tinghir, Morocco on October 21, 2018. The symposium consisted of a serious of presentations followed by a series of workshops in the afternoon applying the research to the communal development plans and soliciting feedback from the community.

The symposium presented the results of the collaborative research, with a framing by Dr. Mona Atia, and then presentations by team members, Julien Taplin, Julien O’Miel, Magali Nonjon, and Sarah Defrawy. The afternoon consisted of workshops with local associations from Roubaix and Marseille, exploring the role of media, the changing politics of social targeting and the experiences of participatory development in the city.
